Numbers, statistics, data, maps, and one-sided communication pour into the conscious. Without a clear way through to relationship and action, this knowledge remains undigested and stuck in the unconscious. Banks of information create sluggishness and "post-epiphanic hangovers", resulting in simultaneous overwhelm and desensitization.
TLDR: brainrot nowadays. How can the practice of unmapping and interactive media create a renewed sense of intimacy with relevant issues in ones life, and a sense of empowerment to take some action?
"Data Center in my backyard" is an experiment within this question, inspired by critical pedagogy (Giroux, Frierie) and the work of Dr. Tao Leigh Goffe. Instead of simply telling the the viewer all the negative impacts of data centers, the visualizer invites their predictions and offers analogies for scale, attempting to convey the knowledge in a way that's (hopefully) easier for the learner to integrate into their frame of reference.
